Much of the country is covered by the Karakum Desert, while mountain ranges such as the Kopetdag, Balkan, and Koytendag shape the landscape. River valleys and oases create fertile areas across the country.

Turkmenistan is also home to one of the world’s largest collections of dinosaur footprints, preserved in the mountains of Koytendag.

Turkmenistan is rich in natural resources, with some of the world’s largest reserves of natural gas and oil. It is also known for cotton production and a growing textile industry.
