Our Nature & Landscapes

Turkmenistan offers remarkable natural diversity, from the Karakum Desert to the Koytendag Mountains and the Caspian coastline. Vast deserts, deep canyons, lakes, and mountain ranges shape the country’s landscape.

The Koytendag Mountains are known for caves, rare wildlife, marble formations, and one of the world’s largest dinosaur footprint trails.

The Karakum Desert covers most of the country and is famous for its shifting dunes, dramatic scenery, and seasonal wildflowers that briefly transform the desert each spring.

Protected areas such as Repetek, Kaplankyr, and Hazar Nature Reserve are home to rare animals, migratory birds, gazelles, leopards, and the Caspian seal.
