Our Tradition

Turkmen culture is rooted in Sunni Islam, local customs, and centuries of nomadic tradition. Ancient shrines, mausoleums, and pilgrimage sites remain an important part of daily life.

For generations, Turkmen tribes lived in yurts and traveled with their herds across the desert. Women became known for embroidery, weaving, and carpet making, while men worked with horses, pottery, and jewelry.

Turkmen weddings are among the country’s most colorful traditions, filled with music, ceremonies, traditional dress, and symbolic customs that celebrate family and community.

Bazaars have also been the center of social and cultural life. Markets such as the famous Tolkuchka Bazaar near Ashgabat bring together crafts, textiles, food, and local traditions.
